Bead Totems, Plant Sticks, & Jewelry … Oh My!

Liz Bunn makes the most beautiful beads.  For years now we’ve sold her beads to artists of all kinds.  And I’ve been making our very popular Plant Sticks and Bead Totems from her lampwork glass beads.  Inspired by her clown head beads, and a great mushroom bead, I created some fun Plant Sticks.  Her beads are mounted on stainless steel so that they can be put in any table plant soil, or even lucky bamboo, which is usually just stones and water.  They won’t rust.  I usually accent her beads with other glass, metal, pewter or copper beads.  They are 9″ to 12″ tall, and are priced at a very reasonable $35.00 each.

Besides Plant Sticks, Liz and I also collaborate on her Bead Totems.  We find that customers love her beads but they can’t imagine what to do with them.  Bead Totems show off a variety of her wonderful beads.  They look great on a desk, or on a display shelf.  The bases are very dense rubber, so the taller totems are very stable on a table or desk. They are painted then decorated to compliment the beads. The picture below shows our five new Bead Totems and also two Plant Sticks behind them in a lucky bamboo plant.  We have more of both at our Houston store.  The Bead Totems range from 9″ to 11″ tall and are priced at $65.00 to $85.00 each.

If you look closely at her Bead Totems you’ll find some flat looking beads that she created using a sewing machine bobbin.  Liz drops molten glass around the spool and they become Steam Punk like.  One customer wanted that exact Bead Totem combination to create a necklace, so I told her that the totem can be pulled from the base with a bit of effort.  The only touch of glue was at the very top, so she could pull all the beads off and use them as she wanted.  And she did just that.  She was thrilled that the pole went firmly back into the base and started purchasing other beads to create a brand new totem of her own design.  What a great idea!

Besides making beads, Liz also creates beautiful necklaces.  Sometimes she’ll use her lampwork beads as a focal point.  Sometimes she uses random glass beads.  In the following picture you’ll see samples of both.  All the necklaces below are doubled-up on display necks because of limited space.  They run $60.00 each.

And if you are interested in her random beads, here are two two trays to peruse.  But they are best seen up close and personal.

Window Bling

I’m all into bling, especially when it comes to light and rainbows.  My new creations below are about 10″ to 12″ long and are perfect for any window.  The handmade lampwork beads are made by Don Hohensee, Liz Bunn and Wanda Karcher.  The crystal is by Swarovski.

Don makes the most wonderfully fluid fish. This one is in topaz and black. At the top is one of his tiger beads and then two small topaz beads dangling around. And, of course, Swarovski crystal.
